Current Training Programs
Chinese Defense and Strategic Innovation Policy Training Program
The Executive Training Course on Chinese Defense and Strategic Innovation Policy examines the relationship between national security, defense modernization, technological innovation, industrialization, and China’s rise as a world power. Taught by leading China expert Tai Ming Cheung, the course focuses on how China is mobilizing and applying its economic, political, strategic, corporate, financial, intellectual, and scientific capabilities in conjunction with leveraging external resources to achieve its grand ambition of catching up technologically with the world’s advanced military powers within the next 1–2 decades.
Understanding China’s Science and Technology Ambitions
Led by IGCC Senior Fellow Jimmy Goodrich, this intensive course examines China’s approach to science, technology, innovation, and industrial policy, with particular attention to emerging technologies, civil-military integration, semiconductor competition, artificial intelligence, and the implications for U.S. national security. The course is typically offered each summer at the University of California San Diego and brings together participants seeking a deeper understanding of China’s technology ecosystem and strategic objectives.
Customized Training Opportunities
In addition to our established programs, IGCC develops customized courses and workshops tailored to the needs of government agencies, military organizations, research institutions, and private-sector partners. Training can be delivered in person or virtually and can be designed around specific policy, security, technology, or regional issues.
