The PPNT Summer Boot Camp

The summer workshop-in-residence at UC San Diego, known as the PPNT boot camp, aims to give participants the knowledge and analytic tools to contribute to the debate on future US nuclear policy.
The boot camp features lectures, discussions, debates, and policy simulations. Participants attend talks by distinguished researchers, academics, policy officials, and operational specialists from leading universities, the National Laboratories, international organizations, and government agencies dealing with dealing with nuclear threats, command and control, international safeguards, nonproliferation strategies, and other nuclear issues.
The course is part of long-standing IGCC work on nuclear policy issues.
Support for the 2018 and 2017 boot camps came in part from the Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration through the Nuclear Science and Security Consortium headquartered at UC Berkeley.

- International safeguards
- Arms control
- Deterrence theory
- History of the nuclear weapons complex
- Nuclear risks and responses
- Global nuclear forces
- US nuclear security policy
- The nuclear nonproliferation regime
How to Apply
Application for PhD students and postdocs Deadline April 1
The course fee of $3,000 includes course materials, standard shared, apartment-style campus lodging, parking if requested, and on-campus meals.
Most students accepted to the program will qualify for a full or partial grant. Full or partial grants may be available for graduate students and postdocs through funding made available by the Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration (NA-24) under Award Number DE-NA0002327.
Application for professionals
The course fee of $3,000 includes course materials, standard shared, apartment-style campus lodging, parking if requested, and on-campus meals. There are a limited number of on-campus spaces available.
The off-campus option ($2,000) includes course materials, parking if requested, lunches, and two dinners during the program. Please note that lodging is not included in this option. We can provide a list of local lodging options, but are not responsible for securing your accommodations in La Jolla.
Applications will be accepted until professional slots are filled or up until one week before the boot camp starts. There is no guarantee of on-campus housing for applications after April 15.
