IGCC's annual competition for dissertation fellowships, faculty grants, and internships in Washington, D.C., has been suspended because of funding cuts. The previously announced 2009-10 competition will not be held.
"It was a difficult decision for the Steering Committee," said IGCC Director Susan Shirk, "but we are hopeful that we will be able to secure an alternate source of funding for the 2010-11 fellowship cycle."
Funding for research and teaching activities across the University of California campuses has been central to IGCC's mission since it was founded in 1983 by nuclear physicist Herbert F. York. IGCC has supported more than 300 faculty projects and some 385 students in their field research in more than 35 countries.
