The Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) offers support to
University of California faculty research projects through its annual grants
competition. Last year, a total of $100,000 was
distributed
to successful faculty grant applicants across the UC system. The maximum
annual support for individual faculty grants is $20,000. The maximum annual
support
for collaborative
multi-campus faculty grants is $40,000. Collaboration must be with another
UC campus to be eligible for the $40,000 award.
The faculty grant proposals are evaluated on their quality and on their relevance
to IGCC's goal of understanding international conflict and promoting cooperation
among nations in political, economic, and environmental affairs. IGCC seeks
projects that provide innovative approaches to international cooperation and
conflict resolution.

As ICGC has evolved over the years, the range of topics
that it funds has expanded. Below is a broad list of topics. This is meant
to be informative, particularly for individuals who might not be familiar
with the broad research areas IGCC is interested in; however, it is not a comprehensive
list. For general information on the current research programs of IGCC, refer
to the IGCC
home page. For a list of previously funded IGCC
fellowships and grants, see the past
award recipients page.
Topics of interest to IGCC include, but
are
not
limited
to:
Causes and Policy Implications of International Conflict, Transnational Ethnic Conflict,
and International Terrorism
International Dispute Resolution
International and Regional Cooperation on Security, Economics, and Legal Issues
Gender Issues in International Politics
International Environmental Policy
International and Regional Cooperation on Health, Technology, Culture, and Social Issues
Innovations in International Cooperation
Transnational Flows of Capital, Goods, Technology, Ideas, and People
Transnational Social Movements and Non-Governmental Organizations
Answers to many other questions regarding faculty funding opportunities

Eligibility
IGCC faculty grant proposals are evaluated on their quality and on their relevance
to IGCC’s goal of understanding international conflict and promoting
cooperation among nations in political, economic, and environmental affairs.
IGCC seeks innovative approaches to international cooperation and conflict
resolution. The international sources and/or consequences of the phenomenon
studied must
be an integral part of the project. IGCC does not fund projects that focus
principally on domestic issues.
UC academic senate members are eligible to apply.
A principal investigator must have an integral role in the project. Collaborative
projects between UC faculty and the staff of the national laboratories are
encouraged.
All IGCC grants are awarded on an annual basis. The maximum annual
support for individual faculty grants is $20,000. The maximum annual support
for collaborative multi-campus faculty grants is $40,000.
Award Categories
Individual Faculty Research Award
Grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded for
individual faculty proposals that fall within IGCC’s mandate and demonstrate
the feasibility of becoming larger-scale, foundation-funded projects.
Collaborative UC Faculty Research
Award
Applicants are eligible to receive up to $40,000 for collaborative,
multi-campus efforts. A collaborative project consists of at least two scholars
from different UC campuses or a UC campus and national laboratory. Multi-campus
projects must still fall within IGCC’s mission
and demonstrate feasibility for becoming larger scale foundation or government-funded
projects.
